| Punctuation: | | | . <-- That little dot there? Yeah, that is for ending sentences that are not questions. (E.g. "The ball is blue." DO NOT write "Are you going to the mall." Stoopid.)
? <-- That is a question mark. You use it when you end a question. (E.g. "Are you reading this carefully?" DO NOT write "You better pay attention?" Nonono!)
: <-- That is for when you're about to make a list, or to also prove what you're about to say is true (somehow). (E.g. "The following is true: I am smart, and you should already know these things by now.")
; <-- That is for breaking a sentence into another section, so you can move on to another subject. Usually this subject doesn't belong separated with the original, so you use this to put it in there properly. (E.g. "The wall was blue; blue had always upset Mary." OR "The men were either from Paris, France; Rome, Italy; New York, New York; or Nonamecity, Somecountry.")
" <-- That is a quotation mark. Verrry useful. Used to mark sentences of speech or is used to quote another person's saying. (E.g. "But father! He spilled his tea on my knickers! Please, you must compensate by giving me a small amount of scones! Or else I'll cry!" <-- Way too many exclamation marks... OR [The man said not to "damage" his dog's mental state.])
' <--- An apostrophe. Used for words like "It's, We've, shouldn't," etc. Also used to quote something that is already inside quotation marks, like if a character was reciting a quote. ( E.g. The man said, "John told me to 'lay off his property', in case something happened.")
- <--- That is a hyphen, or dash, whatever you herpaderps wanna call it. It is used for "combining" words that usually aren't used together with another word, and can be used two at a time to separate a part of a sentence from the original section. (E.g. "The man shouldn't-- no, couldn't--kick the puppy. Look at those cute wittle beady eyes!" OR "Its fur was a greenish-purple, and the ears were tilted topsy-turvy." OR "The creature was called the "He-She", because of its rather awkward appearance." See how I make these sentences up? )
! <-- Exclamation point. Used to emphasize a sentence, usually representing emotion. Sometimes, if a question isn't really asked, but shouted or stated, it is used in place of a question mark. (E.g. "What!" OR "How could he!" OR "That was not the way to do things!")
/ <-- That is a slash... thing. Used to say something could be another thing. LOOK AT THE EXAMPLE! (E.g. "Is he/she a blonde?")
& <-- That is the ampersand. It is used for titles that include two things that are a "package deal", something you couldn't separate with a normal "and" word. (E.g. Bumper & Tires, as opposed to Bumper and Tires. Typically used for namesake. Never use it in story-writing unless it's a title. Otherwise, do not replace it for "and". "And" is the real deal, fool. Dawg. Homie. Diddly-doo.)
] <-- That is a bracket. Basically the same thing as parenthesis, only you put this if you need another separator when you already have them in a set of parenthesis. (E.g. The brains (they didn't have mind-hearts [organs that were created using the imagination] back then...) were considered to be the most intricate organ of the entire body system.)

| Knowing when to use Text Features: | | | Caps! Caps! Caps! - Caps are important. You must know when to capitalize letters. Never use caps to emphasize a word or represent shouting. This is technically the wrong usage. Use italics or bold print instead.
"Harold!! You know better than to excessively use caps in your sentences! Tsk, tsk, time to go back to school, young man." |
| Proper Words Usage: | | |
Two, to, and too.
Two: The number. To: As in the verb, "exist" or "be". "To be". Never use "to" as an adjective, like "That's to bad". You aren't saying that "That bad exists," for it is not the subject of the sentence. Too: Your adjective. It is a describing word. "That couldn't have been you, too!" or, again, "That's too bad."
Your and you're:
Your: It is a possessive word, saying how something is "your's". Not to be used as a "to be" verb. You're: The shortened version of "you are". Say you have a sentence. Choose the correct version of it:
"You are grandma is waiting for you." or "Your grandma is waiting for you." See? (Remember: It's means "it is", aren't means "are not", etc. See what they're doing here? They're basically combined words. Remember, for each word that is shortened with an apostrophe, there is a longer version of it. Key what word you think you'd use with the base word, and fit it into your sentence. Does it fit?
E.g. You're cat is nuts; you are cat is nuts. [Doesn't fit.] Your cat is nuts; the cat that is yours is nuts. [Does fit])
There, their, and they're:
There: Location. ("It's right there!") Their: Possessive. ("That's their car.") They're: They are. ("They're passing by the interstate right now, Harold. God, you're such an r-tard when it comes to the art of patience...")
Its and it's:
It's: It is. (It's a cute puppy.) Its: Possessive. (I don't know its name. [It's not "I don't know it is name."])
Then and than: (This one is, by far, the most annoying thing to me when it comes to seeing other people use the wrong version. *Twitch* By far. *shudder*)
Then: Chronological adjective, or just another word you can put in your sentences ;3 (E.g. "If I'm a dog, then he is a cat." OR "Then, the shady man spoke...") Than: Used when comparing something to another thing. Helps describe the amount of it. (E.g. "It is later than 1 pm, so I must go." OR "It is more than enough." DO NOT PUT THEN! It is not right. It's like saying, "It is later, then 1 pm happens." and "It is more, then there is enough." Oi.) |
